Most of us hard-core jazz fans are familiar with the ever changing club and concert scene in the Greater Hartford area. However, East of the river often goes unnoticed. One of those venues that deserves greater attention, and has been hosting some great shows for the last four years is The Packing House. Their non-profit EC-CHAP has been bringing great jazz artists like Greg Abate, Nat Reeves, Don Braden, Nicole Zuraitis and many more to it’s historic performance space in Willington, Connecticut.
The Packing House at The Mill Works is a special place. Its heavy hand-hewn chestnut beams, wooden floors and ceilings, and brick construction present a unique ambiance for creative activity and innovation. Once a part of the Gardiner Hall Jr. Company and Andover Tool & Die operation, this historic hall constructed in 1870 now provides an intimate environment for performance and events. Besides offering great jazz shows, they host folk, films, fine arts exhibitions and much much more.
October 2018 is the start of a new season, and The Packing House/EC-CHAP has a great line-up of concerts.
October 6 – Luke Hendon (Gypsy Jazz)
October 13 – June Bisantz – The Chet Baker Project
October 20 – Sarah Hanahan with special guest Part 1
