They are dedicated to the preservation of the classic bebop and post-bop genres\, lovingly referred to as “Straight Ahead.” Each member is an established luminary on the local and regional jazz scene. DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed jazz saxophonist Allen Lowe leads the monthly Jazz Night at Best Video Film & Cultural Center. Allen Lowe & The All Stars consists of a coterie of musical guests including Gary Grippo on guitar\, Jeff Fuller on bass\, Barry Ries on drums and trumpet\, and Mark Kaplan on tenor sax.  Join them in a relaxed setting with tables and chairs to truly sit back\, relax\, and enjoy the great vibe. The BVCoffee Bar will be open for beer\, wine\, and café drinks. \nAllen Lowe is a composer\, saxophonist\, and music historian. He was voted Artist of the Year in the 2021 Jazz Times Readers’ Poll. He has recorded as a leader with: Julius Hemphill\, Gary Bartz\, Marc Ribot\, David Murray\, Nels Cline\, Matt Shipp\, Roswell Rudd\, Don Byron\, Doc Cheatham\, and others. \n“This fall\, the jazz composer\, saxophonist\, and music historian Allen Lowe released what I consider to be his magnum opus\, a four-cd set containing 69 tracks exploring almost every musical element and style that could be subsumed under the expansive rubric of “jazz.” One can hear elements of blues\, R&B\, bop\, funk\, rock\, punk\, avant guard\, and much more\, all beautifully composed and magnificently played (by Lowe himself and his colleagues). SUMMARY:Thimble Islands Saxophone Quartet.
DESCRIPTION:This is a group of four professional musicians that perform a wide variety of music\, representing classical\, jazz\, traditional and contemporary musical genres\, holding to a philosophy\, “that good music is good music no matter the genre”. Some of the composers represented are: JS Bach\, WA Mozart\, Samuel Barber\, Thelonious Monk\, Miles Davis\, Dave Brubeck\, George Gershwin\, Leonard Bernstein\, Scott Joplin\, Frank Vasi\, as well as traditional American folk and popular music. All have a place side by side on a TISQ concert program.\n\nAll music is arranged by Tenor Saxophonist and composer Frank Vasi. Along with Frank Vasi\, the members of TISQ are Chris Herbert\, Steve Mustakos\, and Tim Moran. For this show\, the quartet will play compositions by Miles Davis\, Mozart\, Thelonious Monk\, Frank Vasi\, Dave Brubeck\, Samuel Barber\, and Scott Joplin.
