The Hartford Jazz Society (HJS) is seeking volunteers interested in contributing to our organization as Board Members, Committee Members and Event Volunteers.

We are an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization working to cultivate an appreciation of sound, culture and love of jazz by presenting a variety of live events, education and other activities throughout the greater Hartford area.

We currently have needs for people with the following skills/interest coupled with your love of jazz:

  • Technology (websites, social media, email, google workspaces, etc.)
  • Development and Fundraising
  • Education
  • Membership Management
  • Programming and Event Planning
  • Marketing, Publicity and Communication
  • Merchandise
  • Finance and Operations
  • Corporate Governance

Board Members

The Hartford Jazz Society maintains an active, volunteer board of up to 15 members. The basic duties of board members are:

  • To attend all regular and special HJSmeetings, currently the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30pm, in person or via Zoom
  • To be an HJS member in good standing, preferably at the “Devotee” membership level
  • To attend HJS sponsored events, volunteer as needed, and purchase tickets for ticketed events
  • To chair or serve on at least one committee:
    • Membership
    • Governance
    • Publicity
    • Programming
    • Education
    • Fundraising and Development
  • To be a positive force in the promotion of jazz music and the organization

Committee Members

If you would like to help our organization without committing to being a board member, these committees meet on an ad-hoc basis as organized by the committee chairs. We have plenty of need for your help on one of the following committees:

  • Membership
  • Governance
  • Publicity
  • Programming
  • Education

Event Volunteers

HJS is always in need of passionate volunteers to provide helping hands at any of HJS’s event including Paul Brown Monday Night Jazz, other concerts, educational events, membership events, fundraisers, etc. As a volunteer, you are entitled to free attendance and discounts on HJS merchandise.
