| FreeIn this concert, hosted by Noah Baerman as part of the interactive Jazz Up Close series, vocalist Andrea Wolper performs with Baerman on piano, Henry Lugo on bass, and Jocelyn Pleasant on drums.
Vocalist/composer Andrea Wolper is a mainstay of the New York jazz scene, having appeared in top clubs including the Blue Note, Dizzy’s Club, Birdland, Mezzrow, the 55 Bar, Zinc Bar, and innumerable others. She tours in the U.S. and abroad, and records and performs for other artists across jazz genres, from holding a vocal chair with the straight ahead Heavenly Big Band to appearing in several performance and recording projects of free jazz bassist William Parker. She was a member of Jay Clayton’s Different Voices performing group, and of the collective improvising trio, TranceFormation, with Connie Crothers and Ken Filiano. The critically acclaimed Wanderlust (Moonflower Music) is Wolper’s fourth and most recent album.
The Jazz Up Close format, curated and hosted since 2015 by Baerman, Director of the Wesleyan University Jazz Ensemble and Private Lessons Instructor, prioritizes deeper understanding of the music and the musicians’ practice, with dialogue between musicians and attendees interspersed throughout the event.
Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.
