Producer and documentarian Darah Golub studied vocal performance at The New School for Jazz, where she met Melanie Charles and initiated “The New York Love Songs” documentary project in 2007. The work-in-process is a longitudinal documentary nearly two decades in the making, offering an intimate chronicle of musicians navigating the journey from jazz school to adulthood. The footage spans early moments of connection, friendship, and artistic aspiration, as well as scenes of discipline, labor, and emotional transformation. Golub will screen a 30-minute excerpt of the film, to be followed by a facilitated conversation with Melanie Charles as the two artists examine the origins of the film, its integration into The Lunacy of Not Believing performance, and its connection to the broader Make Jazz Trill Again practice.
