The Side Door hosts its first jam session of the summer, led by the Avery Wyman Quintet featuring trombonist Steve Davis

Avery Wyman – Drums

Steve Davis – Trombone

Anthony Bolden – Tenor Sax

Zaccai Curtis – Piano

Gavin Gray – Bass

The evening opens with a full 60-minute set from the Avery Wyman Quintet, a hard-swinging group rooted in the bebop and post-bop tradition and led by drummer, percussionist, and bandleader Avery Wyman. A graduate of NYU Steinhardt’s Jazz Studies program, Wyman has performed alongside Delfeayo Marsalis, Ron McClure, Ricky Ford, Michael Rodriguez, Nat Reeves, and Shayna Steele, among many others. Joining him is the incomparable Steve Davis, one of the most celebrated trombonists in jazz today, a longtime member of the Jackie McLean Quartet, and a collaborator of Art Blakey, Chick Corea, and Freddie Hubbard, among many others.

Following the opening set, the stage opens for an all-comers jam session until 10PM. This is a ticketed event open to everyone, whether you’re a musician looking to sit in or simply a music lover who wants to enjoy a spontaneous, electric evening of jazz in an intimate setting. The audience is very much part of the experience, there is no better way to witness the living, breathing tradition of jazz than watching musicians come together in real time.

Doors at 7PM. Opening set at 7:30PM. Jam session follows at 8:30PM.

The Side Door Jazz Club is a dedicated jazz listening room located inside the historic Old Lyme Inn, 85 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, CT. Tickets are reserved seating. Guests dining at the Old Lyme Inn prior to the show receive 10% off their dinner bill.
