Paul Brown: Paul Brown founded the Monday Night Jazz series in 1967, and produced it almost single-handedly for 40 years. The Library of Congress recognized the Monday Night Jazz Series as the oldest, free, continuously run jazz festival in the nation. He also founded the Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz in 1992, and was a co-founder of the Artists Collective in 1970. He brought jazz performances and jazz education to neighborhoods and schools through the Garden Area Neighborhood Council of the Community Renewal Team. He has taught and mentored jazz students at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts for nearly 20 years. He has received numerous awards for his achievements, including the J.C. Penny' Golden Rule Award in 2001, the New England Jazz Alliance Unsung Heroes Award in 2003, the Heartbeat Ensemble Street Performance Award and Latter Rain Christian Fellowship Appreciation Award in 2006, and the Greater Hartford Festival Of Jazz Community Award in 2007. As a bassist, he has backed such jazz luminaries as Dexter Gordon, Junior Cook, Bill Hardman, Al Haig and Barry Harris ("Paul's a real good bass player whose real strength is his groove"), and has performed with Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone and Betty Carter. He is a much sought-after bassist and performs in his own groups and as a sideman all over the world. Collectively, the band has forged a powerful, yet sleek sound which has become synonymous with hard-swinging, straight-ahead modern jazz. Individually, each member of One For All has earned a sterling reputation not only as a soloist/bandleader (via solo recordings and tours), but as a top-shelf, first-call player on the NYC scene. As a band, One For All has worked hard to achieve their own unique sound, while at the same time placing a premium on assimilating the tradition from the masters. The group's members have played with a broad range of jazz icons over the years, including... Benny Golson, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton, Jackie McLean, George Coleman, Harold Mabern, Cecil Payne, James Moody, Jimmy Cobb, Louis Hayes, Jimmy Heath, Slide Hampton, Jon Faddis, Charles Earland, Lou Donaldson, Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, Pharoah Sanders, Johnny Griffin and Chick Corea. One For All released "The Lineup" in 2006 on Sharp Nine Records and "What's Going On" on Venus Japan in 2007. Since 1997, the band has recorded 12 CD's and continues to garner rave reviews for it's live performances in clubs, concert halls and festivals around the world. Once he got there, it wasn't long before he started being noticed by a lot of top musicians in the city. His first professional Jazz gig was playing with the Mingus Big Band. That gig lead to many long lasting associations with many of the talent in the band, and a great opportunity for growth. Since his arrival, he has been fortunate enough to play with many of today's and yesterday's Jazz luminaries, such as Jimmy Heath, Frank Wess, Charli Persip, Keter Betts, Frank Foster, John Hicks, Ravi Coltrane, Winard Harper, Vincent Herring, Ralph Peterson, Lonnie Plaxico, Cliff Barbaro, Nancy Wilson, Bobby Short, Bobby “Blue” Bland, The Skatalites, Cedar Walton, and many, many more. Jeremy has also been featured in a variety of different bands, including the Roy Hargrove Big Band, The Village Vanguard Orchestra, the Duke Ellington Big Band. Currently, he is member of the Lewis Nash Septet, and The Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band featuring Louis Hayes. Pelt...maintains a consistent forward momentum.. while he transmits a modern-day sense of urgency with his songs. Pelt's major focus is on writing music for each of his three bands: “Creation”- a sextet consisting of trumpet, alto sax/bass clarinet, vibraphone, guitar, bass and drums. “Noise”- an semi-electric band consisting of trumpet w/ effects, guitar, rhodes, bass and drums, and “The Jeremy Pelt Quartet”- which is trumpet, rhodes, bass and drums. His work earned him a huge write-up in the Wall Street Journal by legendary Jazz writer and producer Nat Hentoff. His performances have received rave reviews from publications around the world. After a reading of Pelt's biography and discography, it's easy to see why Pelt was voted Rising Star on the Trumpet two years in a row by Downbeat Magazine and the Jazz Journalist Association. Jeremy is currently a featured performer in the Mingus Big Band, Ralph Peterson Quintet, Lewis Nash Ensemble, Cannonball Adderley Legacy Quintet featuring Louis Hayes, Vincent Herring, and the Frank Foster Loud Minority Big Band.
