Winner of the Great American Jazz Piano Competition, pianist / composer Laszlo Gardony has been noted for his “fluid pianism” by The New York Times and three of his albums made DownBeat Magazine’s “Best of the Year” list, including his 2023 release, “Close Connection.” “A formidable improviser who lives in the moment” (JazzTimes), Laszlo has performed in 27 countries and released 14 albums on the Sunnyside, Antilles and Avenue labels. Laszlo is a professor of piano at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and he is on the faculty of Harvard University’s “Jazz Combo Initiative” program. He is a voting member of the Recording Academy/GRAMMYs.

Following studies at Berklee College of Music, Christian Artmann moved to New York where he released three recordings as a leader to critical acclaim: JazzTimes applauded Uneasy Dreams (self-released, 2011) for its “vision of confidence”, The National Flute Association Quarterly called Fields of Pannonia (Sunnyside Records, 2015) a “mythical journey in sound”, and All About Jazz praised Our Story (Sunnyside Records, 2018) for its “perspective beyond boundaries”. Now residing in the Bay Area, Artmann released his latest album, “The Middle of Life”, in 2023 on Sunnyside Records, featuring “clever, evocative themes” and a sound which “conjures up the magic of Chick Corea’s first Return to Forever band” (JazzThetik, Germany). Artmann’s approach to the flute has been called “a model of what is possible with jazz flute” (The Flutist Quarterly), featuring a “fluid technique” (Jazziz) and “the most beautiful, pure flute sound one could ever wish for” (JazzThetik, Germany).
