The Sacred Heart University Academic Music Program presents Prof. Joe Carter and the Brazilian Jazz All Stars in an annual tribute concert celebrating the music of Brazilian music composer, Antonio Carlos Jobim (aka “Tom” Jobim), considered by many to be the most important Brazilian composer of the 20th century. His output crossed Jazz, Classical, Pop, Folk genres.
Jobim was the primary force behind the creation of the Bossa Nova style and his songs have been performed by many singers and instrumentalists within Brazil and internationally. He is widely known as the composer of Garota de Ipanema (The Girl From Ipanema), the second most recorded song in all of music history but his output includes film scores, classical orchestrations, music for television and songs utilizing the varied rhythms and styles of Brazilian music – Bossa Nova, Samba, Baiao, Choro, Partido Alto, Maracatu, Forro and much more.
