Noah Baerman Trio performs the music of Bill and Kenny Barron
Sunday November 10 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
| FreeWesleyan students, faculty, and staff can RSVP on WesNest.
Pianist Noah Baerman, Private Lessons Instructor and Director of the Wesleyan Jazz Ensemble, and his trio featuring bassist Henry Lugo and drummer Dennis Mackrel, will perform a concert featuring the music of Bill Barron and Kenny Barron. In addition, there will be a couple guest appearances from two wonderful musicians, vocalist Erica Tracy (who longtime fans might recognize from her appearances on my Ripples and Love Right albums) and saxophonist Roxy Coss, currently serving as a visiting fellow at Wesleyan’s College of the Environment.
Bill Barron (1927-1989) was a remarkable saxophonist, composer, and scholar who served as a beloved faculty member and Chair of the Music Department at Wesleyan. His younger brother Kenny Barron (b. 1943) is one of the pre-eminent living jazz pianists with hundreds of recording credits, more than a dozen Grammy Award nominations, the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Fellowship, and a multi-decade legacy as an educator.
In addition to the performance, Baerman will hold a series of three workshops for students interested in getting an inside look at the process of curating, arranging, and rehearsing the music for the concert based on visits to Bill Barron’s archives in the Wesleyan Library, as well as Baerman’s experience as a student of Kenny Barron for six years.
