Scott Robinson: “10 by Sax”
Saturday February 15 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
| $25Scott Robinson will play ten different saxophones in a concert that Berkshires Jazz has nicknamed “Ten by Sax”. The virtuoso reedman –and occasional trumpeter– will be performing 10 numbers that were composed or made popular by 10 different jazz saxophonists. And, he will be doing this on 10 different-sized saxophones. Scott has created a one-time program that will be performed with an all-star Berkshires Jazz Trio of Benny “Fingers” Kohn on piano, John Suters on bass, and Conor Meehan on drums. The event is Berkshires Jazz’s entry in the City of Pittsfield’s annual 10×10 Upstreet Arts Festival, a 10-day cultural series in the city’s downtown area, each with a theme of 10. Events include ten 10-minute plays; an art show where each piece measures 10 by 10 inches; ten minutes of fireworks; etc.. A mainstay in the Maria Schneider Orchestra, Scott Robinson appears on 275 recordings under his own name or with Maria or other leaders. Throughout his career, he has worked to keep unusual and obscure instruments in the public view. With his roots (and family) in the Berkshires, Scott will be playing to a home-town crowd, and tickets are selling fast.
