Jazz at Cafe Nine

Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, a rotation of local and special guest musicians and bands will play a house set from 7-8pm. After the house band set host bands will open the stage for a jazz jam session from 8-10pm.

“I’ll be playing a set of original compositions and some of my arrangements with Warren Byrd, Alvin Carter, Will Cleary, and Saskia Laroo. I’ve got an interesting set programmed with some of my own music, a cool little piece by Bill Evans, an arrangement by Carla Bley that I’ve transcribed and at least one arrangement where I’m funking up an old Klezmer tune.  I don’t know if I’ve played more than a couple of these tunes anywhere in the New Haven area so it should be an interesting set.  After we play that first set there’s a jam from 8-10 pm. If you’re a vocalist or instrumentalist I hope that you’ll come by for the jam.” -David Chevan, bassist
